>family background
Cablin Sel James II was young when he met Sarah Michelle Penna. He had just moved into the town to be in an apprenticeship with his uncle. For the first month of his time there she would come into the merchant shop every Thursday, and he would go to the bakery that she helped her mother at every Tuesday. Not long after he finished his apprenticeship he went to ask for her hand in marriage. Although they married young they couldn’t conceive a child. Then finally after 7 years Sarah got pregnant. They were so excited that Sel swore that if the child lived he would apprentice his son (if it was a boy) and would make the best life possible for him.
>birth place
Cablin Sel James III was born in his mother’s room on a windy September afternoon. The midwife was called as soon as she started her labor pains and the baby was delivered perfectly, almost too perfectly. When he came out they saw why it was perfect. The priest was sent for immediately. When the priest appeared the midwife had already sewn the split and had put a healing salve on it. The priest stumbled back and prayed, saying that the son of the devil was in the room. He told the baby’s parents that the baby was born with the mark of the devil and that they would have nothing but woe. But Sarah wanted to keep the baby and Sel had promised to make the best life possible. So the priest left shaking his head and the midwife left with a prayer in her heart for the child’s future.
>history, background
As Cablin grew up, he knew that he was different. It wasn’t until he was 10 that he understood why, everyone thought of him as the devil’s son because of his lip hare. Because it was a deformity he must be related to evil. So Cablin started to go to church and pray for his sins. No one ever sat near the James’ family, they were all afraid that the boy would eat their souls.
Despite the fact that everyone avoided him Cablin did his best to succeed in life. He worked really hard in his apprenticeship, doing everything that his father told him to do. He learned all he could from school and even bought a couple of books. It was amazing how quickly he learned. He finished his apprenticeship right on time with many loyal customers. Now Cablin works for his father as a merchant. He has to wear a mask when people come in to do business, but other than that it went very nicely.
One year a lovely family moved to Large Port. They bought a store and became well known for their pastries. They also had a daughter who was lovelier than anything. She had hair the color of gold and a smile that shone brighter than the sun. Cablin was taken with her at first glance. But what did he have to offer her? She was beautiful and kind; he was the son of the devil. So the most interaction that they got was when he went to the store for eggs.
One day Cablin went into the store and no one was there except the girl. “Hello,” she said with a smile.
“Hello,” Cablin said awkwardly. “I would like a pound of flour and 5 eggs please.” While the girl was getting that Cablin wandered over to the pastries and sniffed them.
“They smell good, don’t they?” she said putting his things on the table. “Would you like one?”
“Oh, no.” Cablin said backing away guiltily. “I only have the money for the flour and eggs. But they do smell amazing.” The girl giggled and went over and picked up a pastry and handed it to him.
“On the house,” she said kindly holding it out for him.
“Oh, no.” He said again. “I couldn’t possibly take that without paying for it. Here’s the money for the others.” He handed the money to her and was about to grab his things when she stopped him.
“Okay,” she said grabbing his sleeve. “I’ll let you pay for it with a favor.” She smiled at him and Cablin’s heart skipped a beat.
“Anything …” He said gazing into her perfect green eyes.
“Tell me your name. My name’s Sathen, Anne Sathen.” She said holding out her hand to shake his. After a moment of him just standing there looking at her hand Anne said. “What’s the matter? Don’t you have a name?”
Cablin shook his head as he came out of a dream and took her hand. “I’m Cablin James. Nice to meet you.” After that first introduction Cablin and Anne saw each other a lot more. He would stop by the shop and she would come see him at his office. They soon fell deeply in love.

He won’t take him out in public and doesn’t let him do much without his mask, but he’s proud of how hard he works and how religious he is. (Although secretly he thinks it’s sacrilegious for the boy to even be touching a Bible and that he taints the church by being in it.) Mother – His mother smothers him and is very over protective of him. She makes sure that he is always in good health, freaking out whenever he has a cold or the like. She loves him very much and will protect him like a mother bear. Since he was little, when people gave him weird looks and called him names she would tell him, “Don’t mind them, they just don’t understand. You are wonderful and will do wonderful things in your life.” After a while Cablin stopped believing her.
Anne – To Cablin, Anne is as close you can get to an angel. She’s as sweet as honey and as kind as Jesus. She is the only person who has ever treated him like an actual person. But he liked her way before he found out how kind she was to him. He saw how she treated others and her lovely smile that was always warm and welcoming. Once he met her she treated him kindly and they became very good friends. But Cablin never had any dilutions to that they would be more than friends. That is until one day that Anne confessed to him and told him that she really liked him.
